Background

With over twelve years of continues working experience as an IT professional in SF Bay Area I have had the opportunity to work with some very fascinating and dynamic companies supporting scientific, telecommunications, retail, financial and software development industries. As Network systems administrator for Revitas Research & Development center in Newark CA office I have maintained a steadfast dedication meeting the needs of the R&D department dynamic and ever changing infrastructure while supporting over 300 physical server and 150+ virtual servers in CA location singlehandedly. In addition I have moved the R&D office 2 times and coordinated efforts for a software company acquisition in 2009.

 

·         Onsite support for Newark CA R&D data center of 300 physical & 150 virtual windows and Linux servers, data center is  not customer facing but is mission critical and is a 24/7 site. End user support for R&D community of up to fifty talented and highly skilled software engineers and executives.

·         Monitoring network switches, applications and other resources using SolarWinds Orion, What’s Up Gold, Ping Monitor and disk monitor for CA data center.

·         Backups across a Heterogeneous network using EVault i365 data protection for mission critical DR backups utilizing cloud based storage. Data backups of MS SQL, MS Exchange 2003 & 2010, Oracle, Jira, Confluence, Fisheye, CVS and many others. Legacy backups using Symantec Backup Exec 10d & 11 are used for in conjunction with Iron Mountain tape backups. Network Cisco device backups using Cat Tools.

·         Maintain documentation for Newark data center server business owner community and server asset use. Maintain accurate inventory of assets and hardware product lifecycle.

·         Administer Window 2000, 2003 and 2008 & Linux 5.x server’s as well as network domain controllers. Create, disable, delete and modify Accounts, distribution groups, Security Groups, file sharing permissions. DNS, IIS, DHCP, Active Directory Sites and Services, login scripts, printer scripts, Group Policy Objects (GPO’s).

·         Plan, purchase & deploy new hardware/server projects while working with engineering department to assure projects meet R&D requirements.

·         Install/deploy Windows 2003, 2008, Centos 5, REHL 4.5 (x32 & x64) servers for engineering, development, performance lab, customer support on HP Dell & VMware ESX environments.

·         Administer Atlassian Confluence WIKI & Atlassian Jira issue tracking applications. Account creation and deletions, security groups ads and changes as well as assist with user related requests and troubleshoot problems.

·         Administer Microsoft Exchange 2003 server with over 400 mailboxes an 80GB private store and a 30GB public store with Exchange server running Outlook Web Access (OWA) for end users. Designed and implemented a strategic Exchange server relocation project with no down time of email. Submitted recommendations, budget and project plan for migrating email system to Exchange 2007 for 2010. Manage email security groups. Routine tasks include TELNET, EXMERGE, ESEUTIL, SMTP Que, badmail, and old log files. Backup with EVault i365 and Native NT backup.

·         Blackberry Server Manager 4.0. Account management, password resets & user activation. Blackberry and iPhone user support.

·         Google Postini Services for email filtering, administration, creating/deleting accounts and updating spam filtering policies as needed.

·         Network and server monitoring using SolarWinds Orion & What’s Up Gold by IPSWITCH. Monitoring network routers, switches and servers with NetFlow analysis and standard counters SNMP traps, create and use SNMP community strings for typical monitoring metrics ie. Ping, CPU, Disk, Services and others. Troubleshoot network bandwidth issues and determine what services or users are creating bottlenecks.

·         Cisco ASA 5510 firewall ACL’s, NAT, IPSec Rules & Service Ports for allowing or denying IP’s and/or service ports using ASDM interface. Cisco VPN 3000 concentrator and Cisco VPN 5.0 client administration. Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series Switches, make VLAN changes that are needed for office changes.

·         Symantec Corporate Antivirus Server 10.1 & Symantec EndPoint Protection across the enterprise. Recently deployed latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection for company.

·         Most server hardware supported in this position is Dell PE 2850’s, Dell 2950’s, Dell r710’s, and Dell r815’s, Dell 1855 Blade Servers, Dell ME3600x, DELL MD1000, and MD3000 Dell Legacy Servers. Throughout their 116-year history, the conservative management philosophy has allowed them to grow and remain strong through the ups and downs of the market. As an IT manager and Systems Administrator for Stewart Title of Ca. San Mateo and San Francisco Counties responsibilities included seven division offices while maintaining critical Title and Escrow application servers in a WAN windows environment.

 

·         Work within a SOX compliant infrastructure documenting all processes for annual audits. Documented all critical IT procedures when none were in place. Worked closely with Regional compliancy officer to assure compliancy standards were followed.

·         Active member of the CA. IT Change Control Board, following guidelines for any changes to critical application servers and processes through weekly calls.

·         Critical application migration of all seven Escrow processing DB servers on to newly rebuilt Dell Power Edge servers running windows 2003 with best practice RAID configurations resolving long standing problems escrow officers were experiencing. Completed server consolidation of all office Escrow servers to 2 centralized SOX compliant locations.

·         Manage Stewart Title San Francisco & San Mateo County Microsoft Active Directory Organizational units. Account creations, deletions, password resets security groups and email accounts.

·         Manage seven network subnets in a regional star topology network using Cisco 2950 Ethernet switches for VLAN management. T1’s were managed by Verizon Business services and LanData management team.

·         Procure IT equipment, IT software, office machines IT supplies, vendor quotes and other common purchasing processes.

·         Implemented IT project plans for new offices to be opened, existing office moves and office closures. Coordinating strategic work with outside contractors and vendors and internal staff. Opened 3 offices, closed 1 office and moved 1 office.

The IT Specialist position is responsible for supporting all company servers, network devices, desktop computers, laptops, printers, and users. The IT specialist is also a system integrator designing and maintaining the computer product line for the imaging department.

Mobile Systems Wireless Burlingame CA 10/1999 - 6/2000

Mobile Systems Wireless (MSW) at the time was a Cellone cell phone reseller in the greater S.F. Bay Area and southern CA. MSW in San Francisco Bay Area had 25 Kiosks in all of the major shopping malls. IT specialist for MSW responsible for analog PSTN networking from Burlingame office to Kiosks PC’s using Symantec PC Anywhere for managing sales application and computers, also supported Burlingame office with 50 users, all computers were Windows 95 and 98 in a workgroup configuration.

 

·         Built PC clones and deployed them to new or existing stores and within the office.

·         Used NT4.0 Poledit.exe to configure 9x PC’s for restrictive policy as management didn’t want kiosk staff to be able to do anything on computers except run sales applications.

·         Setup several new store locations configuring networked PC’s and fax machines and occasionally contact Pacific Bell for phone line connectivity issues.

·         Custom Microsoft Access applications were used to run stores and office, applications were continually changing and needed to be updated frequently (at least once a week).

·         Worked with San Diego office programmers with QA testing and documented application bugs whenever they were discovered which was fairly frequent.

·         Configured a Windows 98 computer in Burlingame office as a download PSTN dialer using Task Scheduler and PCAnywhere so kiosk data would be downloaded by the morning.

·         All store data was uploaded to San Diego corporate office daily.

·         Provided first level PC support for all company employees.

·         Generated daily weekly and monthly sales reports for management.

·         Implemented TCP/IP for office and Kiosks previous IT person was using SPX/IPX, service HP LaserJet printers and Epson thermal printers when needed.
